Patricia J. Terry RN (D) Wins 10th LD Democratic Nomination
Camano Island, WA. The Committee
to elect Patricia J. Terry, Democrat to the State Legislature,
10th Legislative District, Position 2, is proud to announce
that she is now the official nominee of the 10th Legislative
District.
Precinct Committee Officers (PCOs) of the 10th Legislative
District (Island County, SW Skagit and NW Snohomish counties)
gathered at the Skagit Community College, Mt. Vernon campus,
on May 22, 2008, to cast their vote. Each PCO vote was weighted
according to the number of delegates their precinct is allotted.
In a landslide victory, Terry won the nomination with the
final count of 220 to 13 over her Democratic opponent, Coupeville
Port Commissioner Ann McDonald.
In her speech to the PCOs, Terry stresses the importance
of preserving the rural character of the District, creating
new markets for farms, supporting both educators and the public
education system, and creating a balance between the urgent
need for environmental stewardship and growth management.
Health care access and the quality of that care are poised
to be central issues in her race against incumbent Republican
Barbara Bailey. Terry's 30-year career started as an intensive
care nurse, followed by management roles in healthcare quality
improvement working with Medicare and Medicaid beneficiaries.
"In time, I came to believe the best way for me to care
for people was to impact the legislation that governs their
lives". Terry's commitment to being a voice for those
silenced by the circumstances of their lives has led her to
run for the State Legislature.
It was a good week for the campaign as Terry earns both the
10th Legislative District nomination and she received word
of an endorsement by the American Federation of Teachers (Washington),
AFL-CIO.
